It just hit me at the end: Funeral homes. They have such a weird vibe and aesthetic and pretty much always carry a memory with them. I don't think I've ever seen a liminal of those yet.
I totally understand where you're coming from and almost agreed. I think the difference is we more or less expect funeral homes to be like that. That vibe is part of the plan. Liminal spaces tend to have a vibe that conflicts with the intention of the space, spaces that should be normal or comforting but aren't. No one is expected to feel normal or comfortable in a funeral home
crime scene photos where there isnt any "evidence" in the frame are also very liminal, you know something happened but there isnt anything suggesting that it happened
yeah dude. my cousin used to work at a funeral home in rural GA. Ive been to a couple of them often and one of the buildings is super old and has literal back rooms to have.. I dont wanna say "parties" but i dont know what else to say. at huge family gatherings, people bring food and their kids and all this. ive been to many a funeral .."party" and its just weird and semi somber the entire time. all the rooms have a displaced living room or 1960s kitchen feel. its like 'nobodys' house, but its still like a house.
nostalgia is just so sad, looking at the terrible camera quality and then seeing how far we got, just to wish you went back. you never know you're in the good old days until you leave them.
as a norwegian, snow is very nostalgic to me and i'm also surprized as to why there are so few snowy liminal photos, because those really tend to hit the spot for me. the photo you took at 16:31 gave me literal chills!!
I never understand why everyone is scared of liminal spaces. They make me feel very comfortable on a weird melancholic way. I've never derived horror from them, it's the kind of thing I use to comfort myself in my worst moments.
Imagine some of these poorly edited photos of gas station bathrooms with ominous lighting will be considered as million dollars worth of art in the future by art critiques 😂 Nice video btw, hope your channel grows further soon!
That is a really nice school, AND a really nice mall. I have some childhood jealousy lol. I love liminal photos and videos so much. I love the 3 categories you made.
Personally the snowier liminal space photos are a lot more effective for me because it usually snows only three to five times a year where I live. Seeing snow is just reminding me of the Christmas of 2013, the only one of two white Christmas' I've ever had (the other one I think was 2011)
Finding your channel is the equivalent of stumnling over one of Molfino's works, I am kind of honored to be present before the inevitable boom of your channel. Go for it man your content, your delivery everything is engaging and entertaining. Wish you the best of luck
I think one thing to add to the nostalgia factor is the memories you hold so dear; such as a childhood home now empty, but as we grow older our memories fade going back to the transitional space, where they are liminal because we don’t remember them yet we know them so well. The reason nostalgic liminal spaces give you that feeling is because you remember them so well, but at the same time you don’t.
I really enjoy the photos, especially the ones taken in the park. The picture at 16:53 stands out to me because of the dark atmosphere, fog, trees, the angle, and the slight zoom out effect (I'm pretty sure). These elements make the photo truly incredible. I have high hopes that your channel will blow up!
pics r all cool but my favs r definitely the library ones! maybe because i really enjoyed the library as a kid and seeing it empty is so odd yet comforting. super underrated channel ^^
(13:53) Litteraly me in a nutshell: But seriously You were the first person, that I have inspired since 2023 and I still continue my liminal trip through the places while people were suspiciously looking at me. Be safe there...
Google's definition of liminal is "occupying a position at, or on both sides of, a boundary or threshold". So like, on the cusp. Merge that with your definition and it's almost like being on the cusp of a memory. Like you said, these photos invoke a feeling of something you remember, but don't remember vividly
I can’t even put into words how much I love this video, the way you talk about liminal spaces is so fascinating. And your photos are just perfect, especially the snow ones they’re unreal !!!!
HOLY MOLY YOUR PICTURES ARE AMAZING!!!! I love alfa’s video with a passion and i watch it every week, and i got so exited when you mentioned it! I study photography and liminal photos is something im super obsessed with, and i swear yours are so good 💪💪 loved the video! Especially the tv head :)
This was an amazing video! I always found liminal spaces to be quite peaceful and almost comforting. They always look like someplace i would want to get lost in. Maybe it's because i don't like being around people all that much lol.
Wow, that was a great video! From the editing to the great storytelling it was awesome to watch. Also appreciated that there were ACTUAL tips on how to take our own photos XD Keep up the good work!
As a fan of both the Caretaker and Liminal Photography, I felt that they were somehow connected. I couldn't put my finger on it for quite a while. But after watching this video, you explained that liminal spaces are about memory. That's when it clicked. Liminal spaces and the Caretaker's work deal with memory. Also, good video and you did a great job with the photos.
This was a rlly cool vid, but wut I especially like r the photos. Ur photos have that liminal feeling, but instead of the typical old, rotting, lost to time way, they feel alive (in a rlly eerie way). Great vid

Very well presented video, well put together and edited, enjoyed it very much. Was kinda shocked to see this is such a small and 'fresh' channel, but I will happily join the ride and am looking forward to your next videos!

These are great photos to be honest, well done! Though personally I didn't get too much of that liminal feeling, maybe because I already knew they were intentionally made to be liminal photos?
